Aberdeen

Festive Lighting - Design, Supply, Installation, Removal and Maintenance Dates / length of contract 2014 – 2016 / 3 years

Blachere UK designed a stunning, bespoke festive display in accordance with the Council’s brief of reflecting quality, value for money and the spirit of the season for a City like Aberdeen. The scheme was predominantly red and white, with highlights of classic gold to bring out key features like stars and snowflakes. Prominent throughout the decorations was the image of a stag, which made a creative departure from the more traditional images of Christmas. Some of the street crossings included innovative iLED balls, which were animated to change colour and generate an additional point of interest. The scheme also included a 10.5 metre high Christmas tree dressed with LED and also wall mounted motifs, and featured cutting-edge projection mapping for the Music Hall. The four-minute show transformed this iconic building so that pillars became flickering candles, Santa swooped across the facade in his sleigh, giant snowflakes fell and the “Merry Christmas” message in multiple languages changed to “Happy New Year” at the appropriate time. This 3D display became the focus of the switch on event and created a talking point throughout the festive season.

Purchased in 4th year due to durability and cutting edge design on products “On behalf of Aberdeen City Council, I would like to pass on our thanks to all at Blachere Illumination who were involved in the design and installation of the City’s festive lighting. The understanding of the project’s aims and objectives ensured that the product supplied fulfilled our lighting needs on this occasion. The efficient installation helped us deliver a successful switch-on event, which has received positive feedback from residents of and visitors to Aberdeen.” Brian Strachan – Aberdeen City Council
